Gerald Hadleigh, chairman of the Midsomer Worthy Writers Circle, is deeply troubled when the group decides to invite writer Max Jennings to their next meeting. The morning after Jennings's visit, Hadleigh is found bludgeoned to death at home by his housekeeper.
